When you lie down on a hotel bed, the last thing you want to hear is a weird crinkling sound. For one Reddit user, what they found when they looked under the sheets confirmed their worst nightmare.

The user made the post about a year ago, without mentioning where the hotel was, but we can tell that it was at a Courtyard by Mariott (for reasons you’re about to see).

“Heard something crinkle when I settled in for the night…” the user wrote, along with a photograph that showed what they had found.

“If you’re reading this, then house-keeping did not change your sheets!” it read. Talk about vile — and written on Courtyard stationery, as well!

After the user posted the picture, it spawned a discussion of some other users’ bad experiences at hotels. Some we can’t post here due to content, but all of them are frightening.

“My husband found a pair of used underwear and a couple bottles of nips (miniature bottles of alcohol) in the bed side table,” one person wrote. “They didn’t believe us.”

“I walked into a hotel room once with an unmade bed, a half drank case of busch under the sink, damp towels everywhere, and the TV on,” another said. “It wasn’t even the wrong room and it wasn’t booked. Housekeeping just didn’t even go in that day.”

Well, hey — at least they left something behind.

If you still haven’t taken your summer vacation yet, you may be wondering if your room is clean. After all, most people aren’t going to leave behind notes like this to test whether the housekeeping is really doing their jobs.

Remember, if you have any doubts, you can always ask housekeeping to clean and make up the room again. After all, you are the customer. Thankfully, most hotel workers don’t shirk their responsibilities. However, when they do, it can be a pretty disgusting thing — as this one letter proves.
